“No retreat, no surrender”
The 86ixers were the last batch of “English-medium” students.
From the moment they entered Sacred Heart English Primary School, their destiny was such that they have no option of falling back (repeating).
If they were to fail any of the major public exams, their only option would be to repeat the year and resit the exam in a completely different language, from English to Malay language. This would be a daunting task for many.
Each public exam was, in many ways, a “do or die” battle, beginning with the then Primary Five Assessment Test, and then the Form 3, LCE (Lower Certificate of Education) to the Form 5, MCE (Malaysian Certificate of Examination), before their final Upper Six, HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate)
